KATRINA RACE
About me:
Hi there! My name is Katrina Race and I am one of the coaches/trainers here at Callegari Equestrian Center. I have been riding in lesson and training programs since I was 4 years old. I started in English Hunter Jumpers and rode with Dennis Henderson for 8 years. I rode and competed in the A circuit with my 12.2 hh Welsh Mountain pony. I was invited to ride in the NJHJA and competed all over the state of Texas.
At the age of 12, I switched disciplines and tried my hand at western riding. I began training and competing in rodeo events such as barrel racing, pole bending, etc. I became very interested in the "horsemanship" part of western riding and transitioned into competitive obstacle courses. I competed through EXCA for four years, training with top trainers such as Lee Hart. I placed first enemy regional championships two years in a row, top five in the national averaged top 10 at the World Finals in Hamilton, TX at the age of 14 and 15 years old.I began training my own horses alongside my trainer, Alyssa, in both basic training and english and western disciplines. At 18, I found an interest in 3-day eventing and trained with the wonderful and talented Yvette Ronney for 3 years. I competed privately at Pinehill, Robbins Nest, Meadow Creek, and New Horizon. Since then, I have stayed out of the show ring, riding and training my personal horses ( and a few racehorses in between) and finding a love for coaching, training, and teaching the next generation and current generation of riders. My passion is horsemanship and connection with your equine partner.
Coaching Style:
I enjoy having fun with my riders and horses! I am very involved with teaching the "why" aspect of riding, training, and horsemanship. I believe a rider should always know why they are doing what they're doing, why their horse is responding or not responding, and how to correct and improve cues and responses from your horse. I believe your horse not only as feelings, but is also incredibly intelligent and willing ( in most cases) and those things should always be taken into consideration while working with them. I can be fun and playful but also push a student who responds well to being pushed.
