Jessica Kehrer
About me:
I started riding when I was 8; I grew up at Ft. Hood/Killeen, TX, trail riding, taking Eventing lessons, competing at Pony Club rallies, and learning horse management through the USPC Standards of Certification. I started bandaging horses around 10-12 years old and my first lease horse had melanoma that I was actively managing as a youth through nutrition and care, beginning my love for equine veterinary care. I continued low-level Eventing competing (Novice and schooling Training) in Texas, while at the same time taking lessons with trainers of various disciplines (Western Pleasure and Reining, Dressage only, and Hunter/Jumpers), and working to bring along young Eventing horses. I took a Texas A&M undergrad and datacenter sales corporate life riding break, and have since returned to teaching beginner/intermediate English/Western lessons in Austin, now have moved to Cypress with family nearby.
Coaching style
My approach to teaching is from the USPC: horsemanship with respect to health care, nutrition, stable management, handling, and riding a mount safely, correctly and with confidence, and respect for the horse and self through horsemanship. All riding begins with, and returns to, the basic balanced seat. Also, especially for adult students, understanding the biomechanics of the horse and free, forward movement is essential.
